Abigail De Kosnik is an author, playwright, scholar, speaker, teacher, and coach. She is an expert in new media, performance, film, television, fandom, and piracy, with a focus on how people of color, LGBTQ+ people, transnational/diasporic populations, and women and girls use, and are represented on, screens and platforms.

I am a Professor at University of California, Berkeley in the Berkeley Center for New Media and the Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies. I am the head of the Media Education Research Lab (MERL), co-founder of the alpha60 internet traffic research project, and CEO of the education consulting firm Chromaculture.
I am the author and editor of books published by MIT Press, University of Michigan Press, Bloomsbury Academic, and University Press of Mississippi.
I have published essays in peer-reviewed journals such as Third Text, Journal of Cinema and Media Studies (JCMS), Modern Drama, and Transformative Works and Cultures.
I have written op-eds for WIRED and The Washington Post. I have been interviewed by CBS News, CNN International, NBC News, CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation), NPR, The Atlantic, The Hollywood Reporter, and other news organizations.
I have written a play, The Philippine Deep, about five generations of my family’s history in the Philippine Islands and the United States.
I am Filipina American and live in San Francisco.
